BOOKINGS AND RESERVATIONS
Yes — although if you are passing by, you are welcome to pop in and see if we have a space available. To guarantee your preferred room and time, head to our booking system and lock it in. Book ahead at escaperoomsnewzealand.com/christchurch.
You can book up to 6 months in advance. If you are planning an escape room experience as a Christmas corporate event in Christchurch, locking in your date early is especially recommended — those slots go fast.
Yes, with the following conditions:

Cancellations or changes made at least 24 hours before your booking receive a full refund or a free reschedule.

A $45 deposit per room is required at booking. This is fully refundable with 24+ hours notice, but forfeited for cancellations within 24 hours.

If fully paid in advance and cancelled within 24 hours, a refund will be issued minus $45 per room to cover staffing and transaction costs.

Any additional participants added on the day will be charged at the standard per-person rate.

Always. The puzzles in our rooms are challenging enough without teaming you up with strangers. Every booking at Escape Rooms Christchurch is a 100% private session. Your team gets the room entirely to yourselves.
Definitely yes. Whether it is a birthday, corporate team-building event, school group, or a special celebration, we will accommodate what you need. Talk to us about your group size and we will put something together for you.
Allow around 1 hour 45 minutes for each experience. That covers your pre-game briefing, the full 90-minute game, and the debrief at the end.
On Game Day
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your start time. This gives us time to brief your team properly before the game begins. We are located at 492 Moorhouse Avenue, near the corner of Fitzgerald Avenue — upstairs above the Refresh Appliance shop. Look for our flag in the middle of the car park; the stairway is right there.
That's okay, but if there is another booking after yours, we may not be able to give you the full 90 minutes. Arriving on time means the full experience — so leave a little buffer.
Yes — while your brain is firing at full speed, why not do another! Just check availability with our team and we will get you booked in for round two.
A good attitude, an open mind, and an empty bladder. Everything else is taken care of.
Game Experience
No. You will not be physically locked in. If you need to get out in an emergency, you can open the door at any time. However, if the door is opened for any other reason, your timer will stop, and the game will be over.
You will still have loads of fun trying! Not every team escapes — and that is perfectly fine. The experience is the point.
Each room has a way to communicate with the control room so you can ask for a clue. Our clues will guide you in the right direction — but they won't hand you the answer. The satisfaction of solving it yourself is all part of the fun.
Completely different. Each room at Escape Rooms Christchurch has its own unique theme, puzzles, and technology. No two rooms are alike, which is exactly why you should try them all.
Yes, each room has an average difficulty rating and age recommendation. However, this is very subjective. The same room can feel very different for first-timers versus seasoned escape room players. Our game masters are trained to understand your team's expertise before the game and can adjust the level of support they provide. Nothing in the room changes, but the way we guide you makes the experience just right for your group.
Kids & Age Requirements
Yes — children of all ages are welcome at Escape Rooms Christchurch. Children under 5 are free. All children 13 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please be aware that some rooms may include darker themes, staged blood, or horror-style imagery, so parental discretion is advised. Only you, as a parent, will know whether a specific room theme is right for your child. We are happy to advise if you call ahead.
Anyone can play! There is no upper age limit. For younger players, children under 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult, and we recommend 10+ for the best experience.
Safety, Accessibility & Comfort
Each room is decorated to a particular theme, but there is no jump scaring or actors leaping out at you. The challenge is entirely puzzle-based. If you are unsure about a specific room's theme, just ask us before you book.
There is nothing inside our rooms that will put you in any danger. However, please note that the only way into our Moorhouse Avenue premises is via a staircase. If you can manage the stairs, you can play. If you have any concerns, reach out to us beforehand and we will do our best to help.
Yes. You are not physically locked in the room, so if you really need to step out, you can. Many players with claustrophobia play and enjoy the experience with no issues. Let our team know beforehand and we will make sure you feel comfortable.
A basic understanding of English would help, as the puzzles and clues are in English. Mixed-language groups visit us regularly and do great — teamwork carries you a long way.
On-site & Practical Info
We have a large shared car park on-site at 492 Moorhouse Ave, Waltham, Christchurch. There are plenty of spaces — park in any spot that is not designated for another business. Look for our flag in the middle of the car park; the stairway leading up to us is right there.
Yes. We have secure lockers for all personal items. Mobile phones are not permitted inside the rooms, so you can use the secure lockers to store them during the course of your game.
